Prometheus is a 2012 science fiction horror film directed by Ridley Scott.  Prometheus is a prequel to the 1979 film Alien.  The film takes place in 2089, on an unknown planet.  The Prometheus is a space vessel that carries an archaeological and scientific team on a mission to discover an ancient alien civilization thought by the team to be origin of humanity.  The civilization being investigated by the team is called by the team, “The Engineers.”   The teams find that they have made a huge mistake in investigating the aliens: that the goal of these aliens is to wipe out humanity.  With half of the archaeological team stuck underground, the scientific team and other half of the archaeological team must try to survive the harsh outer conditions of the planet while trying to prevent the extinction of humanity, even if it means resorting to suicidal measures.  Prometheus features several different species of aliens, from small snake-like aliens, to pale, humanoid looking aliens, and even a less mature version of the alien species from the Alien films.  In Prometheus, the planet is vastly portrayed as a Mars-like planet, yet with some earthly features and with much of the film taking place in caves and on the surface.  The movie serves as a great prequel to Alien, showing the origins of the alien species in the Alien films and delivering extremely similar survival horror scenarios in comparison to Alien.
