ORIGINAL ARTWORKSpirited Away is a 2001 anime film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The story of the film follows a ten-year-old girl named Chihiro Ogino, who is travelling to her new home with her parents. Her father takes a wrong turn, and they end up in an abandoned town. As they walk into the town’s center, her parents find an abandoned restaurant stall and begin gorging themselves with food. Chihiro becomes uninterested in her parent’s whereabouts and wanders across a river and into a bathhouse, where she meets a boy who warns her to return across the river before sunset. She arrives back to her parents too late, discovering that they have transformed into pigs, and Chihiro has been trapped in the spirit world. The rest of the film’s plot is Chihiro’s chilling adventure to return to the normal world and free her parents from their bodily prisons. Chihiro encounters many spirits, many of whom are derived from Japanese folklore, that either help her or torment and prevent her from reaching and freeing her parents. I thought this movie was very interesting and hard to stop watching, with a very interesting Japanese culture-filled plot and a cheerful ending.
