28 Days Later

28 Days Later is a 2002 English post-apocalyptic horror film written by Alex Garland and directed by Danny Boyle, and my favorite zombie movie of all time.  The main protagonist in the movie is Jim (played by Cillian Murphy), a man who wakes up from a coma 28 days after the outbreak of the “rage virus”, an virus created in a lab in Cambridge, England.  The rage virus is created by a group of scientists who are performing studies of the virus on chimpanzees.  One of the chimpanzees breaks free, and of course, the virus is contagious, and you can guess where it goes from there.  The “zombies” in the film are not really zombies because they are not dead, but they are ordinary people who have been infected by the virus.  Jim wakes up in a hospital bed, and begins wandering around in search for survivors in London.  As he walks out of the hospital and into a courtyard, all he discovers is dead bodies, and the late aftermath of previous riots between citizens of London and the government.  His first encounter with infected humans is when he wanders into a church, and tries to approach a priest so he can enlighten him on the situation, only to find that the priest has been infected.  The priest and other infected humans in the church sprint towards him to attack him, but he is saved by Selena and Mark, who later bring him to their other companion, Frank, and their hideout and safe-haven of the London underground metros.  The group continuously run into problems of having to find food, prevent themselves from infection, and survive against attacks from crazed survivors who try to steal from them, rape, and murder them.  The movie was filmed in several parts of London including the London metros.  This movie is my favorite zombie movie because of its realistic survival horror themes and cinematic storyline following the struggle of four survivors in a post-apocalyptic world.
